Food Assistance for Birney Families

At Birney Elementary, we believe in taking care of one another — just like bees in a hive. The Birney Beekeeper Alliance is working to make sure that no family goes without the food and support they need. This page shares resources for immediate food assistance, as well as opportunities for our community to help one another as we build our Mutual Aid programs together.

Need Food Assistance?

If your family could use some extra support right now, you are not alone. Below are local resources that can help:

  • FindHelp.org: findhelp.org — Enter your ZIP code to find food pantries, community fridges, and free meal programs nearby.

  • San Diego Food Bank: sandiegofoodbank.org/get-food — Find local food distributions and emergency food programs.

We’re also developing a Birney Food Pantry to provide direct access to groceries and essential items for Birney families. Our goal is to have this pantry ready to serve families soon. Please check back here for updates as more information becomes available.

Get Involved

The Birney Beekeeper Alliance’s Mutual Aid team is growing, and there are many ways to lend a hand! Whether you have time, resources, or organizational skills to share, your help keeps our hive strong.

We’re looking for volunteers to support efforts such as:

  • Collecting and sorting food donations

  • Coordinating clothing donations

  • Helping manage the new Birney Food Pantry

  • Providing general administrative or communication support

  • Assisting with future programs like the Grocery Buddy initiative

Once you sign up, we’ll reach out to match your interests and availability with current needs.
