Help Improve Traffic Safety
We are asking families and community members to submit a City of San Diego request for a designated student loading and unloading zone on Meade Avenue.
During arrival and dismissal, families currently use the parking spaces along Meade Avenue for student drop-off and pick-up. The existing spaces are wide, and there is no clearly designated loading zone. This can lead to vehicles stopping in different locations and creates conflicts between vehicles, pedestrians, and children walking to and from campus.
Ongoing campus construction is expected to cause continued congestion, so we are asking the City to evaluate the area and establish a clearly marked school loading/unloading zone on Meade Avenue. This could be accomplished by restriping existing parking spaces or by converting a portion of the existing parking area into a designated loading zone.

I am requesting that the City of San Diego evaluate and create a designated student loading and unloading zone on Meade Avenue near Birney Elementary School.

I am requesting that the City evaluate the existing curb space and implement an appropriately sized, clearly marked school loading/unloading zone on Meade Avenue. This could include re-striping existing parking spaces or converting a portion of the existing parking area to a designated loading zone, as determined appropriate by City traffic staff.
This improvement would help organize school drop-off and pick-up, reduce vehicle–pedestrian conflicts, and improve safety for students and families walking to and from Birney Elementary School.
